Not doing so well

Things seem to have taken a turn for the worse here in Victoria. The planned easing of restrictions has been postponed and several municipalities have local hotspots, most, it seems, centred on particular families. Surprisingly, it seems that there's only been a couple of new cases resulting from the Black Lives Matter demonstrations.

At the radio station the proposed move to Stage 2 has also been deferred for a fortnight.

But so far, I don't know anyone who's had Covid-19, or even anyone who knows someone who's tested positive. Around here we are in a little bubble - I continue in my daily routine visiting the IGA and Mavis, and wiping down all purchases before putting them away. Let's hope it's enough.

In other news today was mailout, which went off very smoothly.

Going backwards?

News today is that Victoria will be winding back some of the restrictions on congregating. As well, restaurants and cafes won't be able to show more customers than currently allowed.

The last week has been much the same as the previous couple of months, except that I've been out for lunch, as well as a lovely birthday dinner at Añada with Peter, Bruce and Margaret. This morning it was brunch with Kat at Dr Morse; unfortunately they no longer offer their own take on eggs Benedict.

Some relief

Yesterday I had a visit from a man from ColbyCool to work on the ducted heating. He was able to fix it, though recommended I register with Brivis and put in a call to get a part replaced. He said it should be covered by warranty. Thanks to Mariese for the loan of the heater.

Then later in the day the man from TPG arrived to address the NBN problem. Before he came I fired up the computer and discovered to my surprise that the internet was working. Anyway he had a look around and was wondering where the main cable into the house went, under the house or elsewhere. Alas, I have no memory of when they installed the extra line (in 1995?) or where it went.

Anyway two out of three. This afternoon I fired up Finale 25, only to find that the sound was working fine. So I tried version 26, and, lo and behold that was working too. So I'll get back to the Finale support people and say thanks, but no thanks.

After some faffing about I managed to get the Sonos speaker working with the new WiFi; it didn't want to work at my first attempt.

Three annoyances

In Friday I decided to upgrade to Finale 26 - downloading was much faster than pre-NBN. I kicked off the installation, putting it on my D: drive, rather than the default C: drive.

All went well until I fired it up and opened a file. Alas, the MIDI out was not working. Then I tried version 25 and that also wasn't working with sound. Bugger! I tried the Knowledge Base which had an entry addressing the Error 7, which had been flagged, but the suggestions there didn't work. So I sent off an error report. It will probably take a while to get results.

Then, around 4:30 I was watching a YouTube video streamed to the TV when it stopped. Long story short, the NBN had decided to stop delivering the internet to me. I then spent about an hour talking to a quite methodical support person, all to no avail. While all signs point to my NBN box being connected, I can't access any sites. The support man said he'd escalate my call, asking me to send a screen grab of the ping and other commands I'd run to adsl_engineers@tpg.com.au. yesterday was Queen's Birthday holiday so I didn't expect any result, but when I hadn't heard by 3pm today I rang again. After a bit of faffing about there's a technician booked in for Friday afternoon.

And finally, last night while watching TV I noticed it was a bit cool and checked the heating control screen. The fan and flame signals were visible but it kept saying "Please wait". No luck. I tried again this morning (2°!) with no luck. I've arranged a service call ($240 callout fee) for Friday afternoon as well.

So feeling cold and frustrated. Tonight I've got the reverse cycle unit churning away.

This morning I visited Loretto and Stewart for breakfast.

Happier today

Daybreak shift this morning - was cold and wet, but the program went well. I bundled Peter's program for next week and got my CDs shelved in time to leave at five past nine.

Went to bed for a nap during which the bundle from TPG/NBN arrived. After faffing around a bit I attached the boxes, scrambled around under the desk (it really is a mess under there) and managed to get the whole thing up and running in about half an hour.

I couldn't believe how easy the whole thing was. Second act of Siegfried completed this afternoon.

The World is still in an appalling state, but I feel better about it today.
