I'm back...

Yes, all seems to be working properly now. I got an email from the Blogger folk today; not a bad response considering they must get thousands of emails a week asking for help.

I've lost any changes I made to my template (links, etc) but everything should be here. Please let me know via comments if you notice anything missing.

I'll use this blog during the trip so stay tuned.

Still not here

If you're seeing this you're probably accessing this blog using a feed-reader of some sort. Currently it is not visible using an ordinary browser. I did something monumentally stupid and lost my blog - I have registered a help message with Blogger but who knows if they'll ever look at it...

In the meantime, if you're dying to find out what I'm up to, please visit my new blog, More Life by the Park, at lifebythepark.blogspot.com. (Yes, I know the two titles don't make sense; indulge me.)

On Saturday we had an extra Gloriana rehearsal so I didn't get to do any shopping, but the rehearsal was well worth it. This concert is shaping up to be terrific - details are here.

On Saturday evening, after a quick but delicious meal at P&B's, Tat and I went with them to the free Grainger concert at the Iwaki Auditorium at the ABC building on Sturt St. I had heard the publicity on the radio and rang the National Library (who was sponsoring it - a tie-in to the exhibition "Facing Percy Grainger") to book tickets.

The auditorium was deservedly full; the concert was a triumph. Stephen Grant's Ensemble 21 and a chamber ensemble conducted by Glenn Riddle performed a fascinating program of Grainger's works. The whole thing was introduced by Vincent Plush and Mairi Nicholson (in a very red dress) and produced some very memorable moments. In particular George Liakatos' performance of Hard Hearted Barb'ra (H)ellen, one of the most amazing folk-song settings, was extraordinary.

Vincent Plush at one stage opined that "we should do this every year" - I whole-heartedly agree. More please.

On Sunday B&P came for dinner to catch up on Saturday's Dr Who, which I had taped, before moving on to meatier stuff with the latest episode of Bleak House.

Well, not officially ... but it's not far away.

Satisfying weekend

Yesterday I shopped on my own as B&P had buzzed off to the Grampians with Phoebe. I took the shopping jeep up to Smith Street, which was its usual gorgeous self. DG came around in the evening and we went to Victoria Street for a tasty Vietnamese meal.

On Friday Tat and I went to rehearsal at St John's with Prof Biller from the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. His English is better than we'd been led to believe and he has a nice clear beat. This morning we sang the whole thing, punctuated with the sermon, and it went off quite well although the orchestra wasn't quite up to its usual standard.

This afternoon I wandered up to Fitzroy to attend JM's 60th birthday party. I knew J in the early 70s and have only seen him occasionally over the last 30 years so I was a little surprised (although very pleased) to be invited. It was a lovely party and despite hardly knowing anyone I had a great time, meeting several very pleasant people and catching up with PN (ex-Age cartoonist) whom I hadn't seen for some time. I hope to catch up with J and P soon, and keep the connection active.

Gorgeous photos

All (both?) my Melbourne readers should take themselves off to the Counihan Gallery in the old Brunswick Town Hall to see the current exhibition of photographs by David Neal.

I went to the opening last night and was blown away by the beautiful images.

Don't miss it.
