Dishwasher blues

On Sunday night, after B&P left, I put all the dirty dishes in the dishwasher (as you do) and set it to run. Then I went to bed.

I got up to go to the loo a while later and noticed that it was still running - it was nearly 1am. As well, there was a reddish light flashing. None of the buttons would respond to my frantic jabbing fingers so I pulled the whole thing out of its space and discovered that the power plug lived in the cupboard next door.

I returned to bed satisfied that it wasn't going to run all night. In the morning I also turned off its water supply before leaving for work ... just in case.

I put in a request for a service call and was told that "the man" would come on Wednesday, probably morning. He arrived around 10am today and managed to fix the problem very easily (I now know what to do if it happens again). I could have got him to make some adjustments to the door which might help prevent it recurring, but he said that he would usually only recommended that if it had done it three or four times, not just the first time.

Let's hope it behaves itself.

Walking works

Good news today - I visited the health centre to get the results of my six-monthly battery of tests. My cholesterol is down to 3.7, LDLC/HDLC ratio is 1.9 and fasting glucose is back to 5.2 (it had reached 6.0 for the past two tests).

So it seems my regular morning constitutional is working. I am now walking half-way to work (who knows, in the warmer weather I might even go the whole hog), and anywhere else that's appropriate. I also try to reach 10,000 steps a day (keeping track with a pedometer, not counting them, that would be silly), but so far that goal is reached only about once a week. Still, the pedometer at least gives me an indication of how I'm going.

Working and eating

I've been a bit busy over the past couple of weeks, mostly with work, but also with eating out.

On Wednesday I joined P&B for a wonderful meal at LE's: after an appetizer of white sardines with olives we were served a most delicious spinach cappuccino(!). This was followed by very tasty braised beef cheek and parsley salad and the whole evening was topped off with a spectacular orange mousse. Truly, she is amazing.

The night before LE and I had a quick meal at Birdman eating before heading off to the IMAX cinema to see Batman: The Dark Knight. It turned out to be a bit of fun, with the experience enhanced by the IMAX experience; the aerial shots were breathtaking.

I've also had some lovely meals at P&B's and out with AB and DL.

I took Mum to the doctor's last week and he seemed very happy with her progress. He's happy to go back to seeing her on a quarterly basis.
